You’ve got 7 seconds. That’s how long many hiring managers and recruiters say they spend looking over a resume, especially when inundated with applications. While some take a little longer to thoroughly scan a resume, the fact remains your resume needs to readily convey your fit for the role you're applying for. When applying for a job, your resume is often the first impression you make on a potential employer. Therefore, it is essential to make sure that your resume is tailored to the job you want. This means customizing your resume to highlight the skills, experiences, and qualifications that are most relevant to the job.

Tailoring your resume to the job you want is essential to make a good first impression on potential employers. By carefully reading the job description, highlighting your relevant experience, using keywords, quantifying your accomplishments, keeping it concise, customizing your objective or summary, and proofreading, you can create a resume that effectively showcases your skills and experiences and demonstrates why you would be a good fit for the job

According to a survey by Glassdoor, 98% of job seekers are eliminated at the initial resume screening process, often due to a lack of relevant experience or skills highlighted on their resume.
Here are few tips to help tailor you resume effectively:
  • Highlight the most relevant experience: This may mean rearranging yout work experience to put the most relevant experience at the top .
  • Use keywords: An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) may notice you before a recruiter or hiring manager does. These systems use specific keywords related to the job, so make sure to use relevant, industry specific terminology in your resume.
  • Quantify your accomplishments: If you increased sales by a certain percentage, include that information in your resume. Quantifying your accomplishments demonstrates your value to potential employers.
  • Keep it concise: Try to keep you resume to one or two pages, and only include relevant to the job.
